Sally Ann Farquhar was born on August 14, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, to Edna and John Robson. The only girl among four children, with two older brothers and one younger, Sally learned early how to hold her own—with a voice that would remain strong, spirited, and unmistakably hers throughout her life.
She met the love of her life, George, during a summer vacation at Houghton Lake, Michigan at age 19. One year later, they were married on September 15, 1950, beginning a lifelong adventure marked by love, laughter, and deep companionship.
Early in their marriage, Sally and George spent time at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis while George served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, they followed their dream of year-round golf to California—though reality soon called, leading George into a sales career that took them to Cleveland, Ohio; Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and eventually back to Farmington Hills, Michigan, where they lived until 1970. Drawn once again by sunshine and golf, they packed up the car and headed south to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with their two daughters, Beth and Laurie, and their beloved poodle, Susie.
Sally worked as a bookkeeper and held a real estate license, but her greatest investments were always in her faith, her family, and her friendships. She cherished her church community and especially loved her involvement with Sheridan House Family Ministries, where she attended Bible studies. A lover of sunshine and sport, Sally enjoyed sunbathing and playing tennis—remaining sneaky strong well into her 90s. She even completed the Sheridan House 5K at the age of 92! She and George were longtime members of First Presbyterian Church and were blessed to celebrate 70 years of marriage before George’s passing in 2020. When their Pastor asked the secret to their enduring marriage, Sally would smile and say, “good cologne,” while George would answer, “a daily happy hour with my bride.” That simple, joyful ritual became their cherished way of staying connected through the years.
Sally was often described as a “firecracker”—sassy yet classy, with a quick wit and a lively spirit. She remained active and engaged throughout her life, True to her nature, she carried that same spark to the very end while living with her daughter Beth. At 96½ years old, she passed peacefully in her sleep on the morning of March 28, 2026. She is survived by her younger brother, David Robson; her daughters, Beth Rizzo and Laurie Farquhar; and her grandchildren, Lauren Rizzo, Evan (wife Kristina) Rizzo, Christopher Rodriguez, and Matthew Rodriguez.
The family will gather on Easter Sunday for church, followed by a small, private service with extended family to celebrate Sally’s well-lived and deeply loved life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sally Farquhar’s honor to Sheridan House Family Ministries.
