David Lee Walton, 67, of Elida, died with his wife by his side, on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 at 2:24 a.m. He was born Dec. 6, 1950 in Selma, AL to Godfrey Jackson and Mary Walton who preceded him in death. On Apr. 3, 1981, he married Barbara Jean Upshaw who survives.
Also surviving are two children: David L. Walton, II of Columbus and Octavia Thompson of Atlanta, GA, a granddaughter, Rosie Bolden; a sister, Evangelist Mikki Walton and a sister-in-law, Rosetta Walton both of Louisville, KY; a special niece, Brittney (Jay) Walton-Mitchell of Selma; four special cousins: Sammy Walton and Nathaniel (Vickie) Walton both of Lima, Aaron (Lakisha Scales-Walton) Walton of Columbus and Adele (Willie) Smiley of Chicago; several nieces and two nephews and many friends, plus, Missionary Dee Still.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Clemmie Walton, and a brother, Eddie Walton.
Mr. Walton retired in 2017 from Ford Motor Co. as a superintendent of materials at the Lima Engine Plant, where he began his career in 1969. From 1970 until 1972, he was a helicopter repairman in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam conflict. He was an original member of Cornerstone Church.
Visitation will be on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018 at Cornerstone Church, 2000 N. Cole St., Lima, from 10 a.m. until Noon. His funeral service will begin at Noon in the church, with Pastor David Roberts officiating. Military rites will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 1275 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita’s Hospice, the American Cancer Society or to the Fresenius Dialysis Unit-Lima.
