

Mary Lelia DeVoe (nee Mahoney), 82, of Lima, died at 9:30 PM April 22, 2011, after a brief illness at St. Rita’s Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born on November 13, 1928 to Raymond “R.J.” and Martha Macintosh Mahoney who preceded her in death. She married and will be missed by her loving husband C. Dale DeVoe on May 20, 1950 who survives.
Also cherishing her memory is her loving son, Michael and daughter by marriage Kathy, her grandchildren Elisabeth, Meredith and Charlie “Bo” all of Cincinnati. She is also survived by her sister Peggy McKenna of Lima, and Mary Ann Wittwer of Wapakoneta and a sister in law Patty Kramer of Cleveland. Mary will also be missed by many special nieces and nephews, her very many friends and held a special place in her heart for the Hunt family in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Mary had a passion for teaching. She taught for many years at St. Gerard’s and Lima Central Catholic High School. Her students will remember her not for the subjects she taught, but for the values and self-esteem she instilled in them all. Mary was a member of St. Gerard Parish, was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and remained involved in Christ renews his parish with some of her special friends. She enjoyed rebating and playing and teaching cards to her grandchildren and extended family.
Also preceding her in death were her brother Jerry, a niece Sally, a treasured nephew Tom and her mother and father-in-law, Howard and Gertrude DeVoe of Xenia, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday April 25, 2011 at 1:00 PM at St. Gerard’s Church with Fr. George Blasick officiating. Calling hours will be Monday from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home. Burial will be at Gethsemani Cemetery.
