Melvin L. Newsome

.Melvin L. Newsome, 93 of Lima died 10:55 p.m. Wednesday March 24, 2010 at Lima Manor Nursing Home. He was born on November 10, 1916 in Bellefontaine, Ohio to Albert and Rachel E (Stewart) Newsome and they preceded him in death.

On April 21, 1938 he married Goldie Marie Banks and she died August 4, 2009.

Melvin was survived by his daughter: Marie Agnew of Lima, his grandchildren: Anthony Newsome of Lima, Douglas E. Newsome of Lima, Kimberly Jennings of Atlanta, Deborah Newsome of Lima and Beth A. Jennings also of Lima, great grandchildren: Christopher Glenn, Lamont Newsome, Cameron Johnson, Brandon L. Whorley, Talysha Tobias, Montaray Jennings, Ashley Jennings, Raechel Jennings and Kristen Jennings and five great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouse and a son: Melvin E. Newsome and a granddaughter: Sandy, four brothers: Albert, Carl, Wilbur”Taddy” and Dorwin Newsome, sisters: Lena Mitchell, Lura Portman, Reba Newsome, Lois Newsome and Irma Haithcock.

Melvin was retired from Sears and was a janitor at the W. Elm Street Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2010 at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday 4-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, Lima Ohio.

Preferred memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association,to the American Heart Association or to the Second Baptist Church.
