

Michael W. Winter, 95, of Findlay and formerly of Lima, died at 8:10 a.m., Sunday, November 1, 2015, at Fox Run Manor, Findlay, surrounded by family and friends. He was born April 4, 1920, in Kenton, to Day W. and Jennie M. (Sowers) Winter who preceded him in death. On April 15, 1955, he married Florence M. Smith who died Feb. 8, 1998. On Dec. 12, 1998, he married Wanda Kinkle who died Dec. 5, 2009.
Mr. Winter attended St. John’s Grade School and High School in Lima. At 17, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.) for 18 months. The C.C.C. was a program to deal with alleviating severe unemployment in the United States.
In 1940, he enlisted in the Marines (1st Division) a year before World War II, after which he was stationed at Guadalcanal and completed his tour after five years. Following his discharge in 1945, the government sent him to a Neon School to learn a trade, which he used at Terry and Jack Neon Sign Company until his retirement.
He is survived by a stepson, John (Janice) Smith of Findlay; step grandchildren, Dawn (Kevin) Rettig of Findlay and Brad (Taria) Smith of Toledo; step great-grandchildren, Desiree (Adam) Hauenstein and Skyler Rettig; step great-great-grandchildren, Gypsy and Story Belle Rettig and Lennon Grace Hauenstein; and two brothers, Theodore J. (Alice) Winter of Lima and Wallace L. (Phyllis) Winter of Franklin, and a sister, Lois M. Lambert of Lake Worth, FL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children.
He is preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters: Leo J. Winter, Larry B. Winter, Donald D. Winter, Donna L. Pohlabel, Constance A. Winter and Nancy A. Winter; two brothers-in-law, Robert Pohlabel and Mendel Lambert and two sisters-in-law, Jean Winter and Wilma Winter, plus several nephews.
Mr. Winter was a former member of Bluelick United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will begin at Noon on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, in Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, with Fr. J. Norbert Howe officiating. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum, where military rites will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 1275 and the U.S. Marine Corp Honor Guard.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home.
