

Thomas John Wehinger, age 88, of Elida, died at 9:40 a.m., on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at Lima Convalescent Home. He was born July 25, 1926, in Lima, to Orville Francis and Sevilla Ann (Kuhlman) Wehinger who preceded him in death. On Nov. 7, 1947, he married Rita Theresa Freund who survives.
Mr. Wehinger is also survived by four children: Janice Ann (Donald McCann, Jr.) Roberts of Willshire, Theresa Maureen (Joseph) Luchini of Lima, Thomas Lee (Sharon) Wehinger and William Craig (fiance’ Lisa Ellis) Wehinger both of Elida; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Augustus Wehinger, and a grandson, Donald Howard Wehinger.
Mr. Wehinger was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II on the Destroyer, USS Gurke DD-783 in the South Pacific. From 1957 until 1971, he was the station owner for Standard Oil at Tom’s Westgate Sohio. He then became a sales representative for Brown Supply Company, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and a member of Bogie Busters at Tamarac Golf Club. He also belonged to the V.F.W. Post 1275 and American Legion Post 96.He was a faithful and loving husband and father, and provided for his family and would take them to Indian Lake on his day “off”.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, in St. Charles Catholic Church, with Fr. Steve Blum officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery with military rites by V.F.W. Post 1275 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
Visitation will be on Friday, from 3-7 p.m. at SIFERD-ORIANS FUNERAL HOME.
