Sue Breakenridge Olin was born on November 24, 1934 in Children’s Hospital in Oakland California to Harold (Brecky) Breakenridge and Dorothy (Billie) Smith Breakenridge.
Growing up in Piedmont California Sue graduated from Piedmont High School in 1951.
After High School graduation, Sue was appointed as an Aide to Congressman John J Allen Jr and lived in Washing D.C for two years. After returning home, Sue attended Business College and worked in the Real Estate field for a number of year’s
Sue married Gary Griffin in 1955 and raised two children, Beth Griffin Sloan and Greg Griffin. Sue then went in another direction when she purchased a Plantscape company that provided live plants and maintenance for a variety of businesses and personal homes. Being a very creative person, Sue also provided decorated Christmas trees, wreaths and other decorations for her clients.
While attending to her business, Sue-z-Bee’s Inc., she met Bob Olin in the next door office where he was doing a special project for a tax accountant. They courted and Bob proposed by flying an airplane with, a banner, over Stanford Stadium during a big game between Cal and Stanford. The sign pulled by the plane said “Sue I love you will you marry me”.
Sue said yes!!
Bob had provided the engagement announcement to Joe Starkey the Cal Bears announcer who then announced it over the air. When Sue went to call her mother about the engagement, her mother said “I know I heard it on the radio”.
Sue and Bob were married on June 15, 1996. They spent the rest of their time together servicing the clients of Sue-z-Bee’s Inc. until their retirement in 2020.
Sue was also a dedicated member of Lions Clubs International and belong to the Walnut Creek Host Club in Walnut Creek California. Sue & Bob lived in Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek.
She was elected Governor of Lions Clubs International responsible for the area that include Contra Costa and Alameda counties. Later Sue was the first woman ever elected to the Lions Clubs international position of Council Chair. This included administrative responsibility for all the Lions Clubs in California and Nevada.
In 2006 they moved to Sun City Lincoln Hills in Lincoln, Ca. Together they found the Lincoln Hills Lions Club with 45 members.
Always trying to help those in need along with Bob, Sue established a project called Lions Special Kids Day in the Sacramento area. A day of fun food family and friendship for physically and delvopmentally delayed children. The day had 1000 volunteers and guests.
Loving to travel and learn and to help those in need they went to England, France, Mexico Hong Kong but one of their most rewarding was Sarajevo where, as Lions, they helped some members of the devastated city to receive a pair of eye glasses. They also often traveled to Nebraska and New Jersey to visit family.
Sue will be remembered as a selfless, giving person who loved life, adored her husband Bob and cherished her children, step children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always there to help a person in need whether it be a child or an elderly person. . She loved being a teacher’s aide at the Sheridan School in Sheridan Ca. The children adored her. Creative, she designed and made quilts, curtains, children’s block Christmas trees, and a variety of arts and crafts.
She leaves behind husband Bob, son Greg Griffin, daughter Beth Griffin Sloan, stepdaughter Charlene Olin, stepson Jason Olin, , 6 grandchildren, , Blake Sloan, Ryan Sloan, Jay Sloan and Courtney Sloan
Christensen, Geoffrey Griffin and Cori Griffin Graham 10 greatgrandchildren, Sister Sally Kadell and husband Bill Kadell, and nieces and nephews.
She is at peace with God.
