He golfed from 1985 – 2014 as much as four times a week, walking the course most of the time. He reduced his golfing to twice week in 2015. In addition to his other hobbies Bud began building scale model replicas of antique tractors, farm implements and cars. The first of which was the very first tractor the family owned: A 1937 Case CC. Most were made for his own collection but others were made by request for family and friends. Bud came into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ in 1973. From that point on he took his spiritual life very seriously.
