D. June Biggerstaff, 87, of Lincoln passed away December 6, 2014. This classy, humble, hard working mother and grandmother was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota June 10, 1927 to Fred and Elsie Anderson. June was the oldest of three children. Their family moved to the Sandhills of Nebraska on a farm by Anselmo, Ne in 1933 where she attended elementary school in Anselmo, Ne and high school in Merna, Ne. June graduated from high school at age 16, and began teaching in a one-room country school in New Helena, Ne. The country school house still stands at the Victoria Springs State Recreation Area. June married Keith Biggerstaff June 9, 1946. The only way she would accept his proposal was if they moved out of Anselmo. They traveled to Kansas City, MO so that Keith could attend plumbing & heating school, then settled in Lincoln, NE to start their family and business. Their first home had grass growing through the cracks, so June found a home in Northeast Lincoln on Logan Avenue where sons Doug, Dennis, & Don grew up. June was an amazing mother as she juggled working at home managing the books for Keith’s plumbing business and working the night shift at Goodyear for several years. After Keith had a debilitating stroke at age 55, she was a driving force working with her sons to keep the family plumbing & heating business active and vital within the community. June was a life-long member of Eastern Star. June & Keith were founding members of the Northeast Senior Center and were active in the local plumbing association. Her faith became increasingly important as the years passed and she was devoted and blessed to have her church family at Piedmont Park Seventh Day Adventist church. June found time to travel with friends and was a voracious reader. She was a quiet philanthropist and always tried to pay it forward in small but powerful ways. June was a grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her “little people”. Seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren filled her life with joy. She insisted that undershirts and socks were absolutely necessary on each child year-round. Family dinners at Grandma June’s house were legendary and always the best when she made her famous goulash and homemade angel food cake with a frosting that none of the daughter-in-laws can replicate. June was preceded in death by her parents Elsie and Fred, her husband Keith, and her brother Bob. Mourning her loss are sons & wives: Doug & Conni, Dennis & Linda, Don & Sheri who all live in Lincoln. Grandchildren: Kyle, Elissa, Sena, Cory, Marc, Brian & Brooke and their spouses and children. They span a small area of the U.S. living in Lincoln, Omaha, Kansas City and Chicago. Brother Dillard & his wife Jean and family from North Platte, NE. Special friends Carol & Charlie Hinkelman. Services at Piedmont Park Church 4801 ‘A’ St. on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation with family Thursday December 11th, 2014 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St. from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
