

Evelyn L. (Freschauf) Ryan, 100, of Lincoln died April 12, 2015 at her home. Widow of Patrick Ryan. Born December 27, 1914 to Bernard and Gertrude (Schiferl) Freschauf in Fremont, NE. In 1928 the family moved to David City, NE. She graduated from David City High School in 1933; she moved to Lincoln at the age of 18 to attend a six month secretarial school course. She worked for a short time for Phillips Petroleum Co. Engineers; worked in the home, and also took care of two children at $3 per week. In 1935 Evelyn started a job in the Legislature at the State Capitol in Lincoln typing the new laws in a locked down room. Her next job was with the WPA and began as a PBX operator then went to personally making out payroll checks. Evelyn married Patrick I. Ryan on September 6, 1938. At that time, married women were fired and told to stay home. The couple was blessed with six children. When the St. Teresa Thrift Shop opened, she volunteered every week until the age of 92. She was also a member of the Altar Society. She is survived by her children; Michael Ryan; Paul Ryan; Pat (Cherie) Ryan; Charleen (Loyd) Smith; Barb (Jim) Lake; and Monica Ryan; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick I. Ryan; and 2 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday April 17, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Teresa Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 PM with a rosary at 7 PM on Thursday at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to St. Teresa Catholic Church or the School Sisters Of Christ The King.
