

He graduated from Quay High School in 1951 where he lettered in basketball and track team.
He entered the Army in June of 1952, serving until May of 1955. He served in Korea until the end of the end of the war.
From his first marriage was born two sons Steve and Michael and one daughter Brenda.
On March 30, 1973, he married Shirley and gained three additional daughters; Corinne, Joy and Sherry.
Most of his life, Garland worked for Goodyear in Norfolk and Lincoln in sales and then as an office manager.
He served the community of Norfolk as Scout Master and was an active volunteer in his church. He enjoyed playing softball on the church softball team as well as driving bus for church youth trips and the local high school drum and bugle corps.
After retirement, Garland and Shirley moved to Lincoln where they remained active in their church, participating in Christmas musicals and choir as well as attending the activities of their grandchildren.
Garland and Shirley loved to travel. Highlights included trips to Hawaii, Japan, Europe (Germany, Holland, Austria), Canada and a Caribbean cruise.
Other favorite hobbies included woodworking, gardening, home-improvement projects, grilling/cooking, crosswords puzzles, fishing and watching Star Trek.
He and Shirley loved family and hosted many gatherings into their 80's. These gatherings brought them the most happiness.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Shirley, his parents, and his 4 brothers and one sister.
Left to honor his legacy are his sons, Steve (Mary), Michael (Jodi), daughters Brenda (Vern) Blosser, Corinne (Patrick) O'Brien, Joy (Dave) Blythe and Sherry Gilbert. Eighteen grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on March 14, 2026, at Capitol City Christian Church, 7800 Holdrege Street, Lincoln, Nebraska.
