Jean Edith Boesiger, age 101, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022. She was the sixth of eight children born to Martin and Sarah Liesveld Drent. She was baptized and confirmed at the Reformed Church at Holland, Nebraska. She was raised and educated in the Hickman-Holland area. She was united in marriage to David Orville Boesiger on November 19, 1943, in the Navy Chapel in Bremerton, Washington. Upon Orville’s return from serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, they lived on the family farm in Cortland and had a Grade A dairy herd and raised turkeys.
They had four children, Joyce, Clark, Jeanne and Jayne. In 1960, they moved to Clatonia, Nebraska and owned and operated a Purina feed business. They enjoyed the friendships and support of the community and made many lifetime friends. They built a mill in 1964 and owned and operated their Purina business until their retirement in 1964. Jean was a member of the Reformed Church at Holland, Nebraska during her youth. After her marriage, she became a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church at Cortland, Nebraska, and later transferred her membership to Salem United Methodist Church at Clatonia, Nebraska when they took residence there.
Upon Orville’s death on April 11, 2002, Jean moved to Cortland, Nebraska and enjoyed the renewal of friendships there. Jean was a faithful and supportive member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Clatonia, the Cortland United Church, the American Legion Auxiliary at Cortland, and served on various boards. She was also the Sunday School superintendent and teacher for many years. Jean and Orville celebrated 58 years of marriage. They built an A-frame cabin on the lake on their farm, and they, with their children, grandchildren, relatives and friends, enjoyed many happy hours there.
She enjoyed music, sports, reading and poetry and she and her husband enjoyed traveling and attending family and extended family sports and other activities.
Jean was preceded in death by her daughter Joyce, her husband, Orville, her parents Martin and Sarah Drent; brothers Julius, Gerald, Merle, Lloyd and Frank Drent; and sisters Florence Boesiger and Martha Hartzell.
She is survived by her son, Clark (Deb) Boesiger; daughters Jeanne (Kent) Grosshans and Jayne (Mark) Sutton; 8 grandchildren: Marcus and Christopher Boesiger; Nicole Addison, Katie Penas, Lisa Patrick, Elliot Grosshans, Laura Jackson and David Sutton; and 17 great-grandchildren, Morgan, Barrett, Reese, Maisie and Malorie Boesiger, Grayson, Max and Berkely Addison; Beau and Ben Penas; Claire and Paityn Patrick; Hank, Sadie and Chloe Jackson; Sterling and Dawson Sutton.
Inurnment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park in Lincoln, Nebraska.
