Jesse H. Ortiz, age 83, passed away December 17, 2016. He was born on January 8, 1933 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Eulojio and Francisca Ortiz. He was the oldest of 9 children. In January of 1952 he joined the U.S. Navy and served until he was honorably discharged January 9, 1956. He met Darlene Barnes and they married in 1957. Jesse was a hard working man who loved to be outdoors and loved planting flowers. He worked for the City of Lincoln Park and Rec where he was a horticulturist for years. He also coached small fry basketball for the Salvation Army. Jesse was a huge Husker fan, he and his wife, Darlene would watch any sport the Huskers played. He will be missed by the many people who loved him and for his sense of humor. He is survived by his daughters, Debra Shotsman of Lincoln, Cindy Ortiz of Lincoln; son, Jeffrey Ortiz of Lincoln; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 brother; 3 sisters and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife; parents; 2 brothers and 3 sisters. MEMORIAL SERVICE Friday, December 23, 2016 at 3pm Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.
