He was baptized July 27, 1941 in Auburn. He graduated in the class of 1959 at Johnson High School. Larry was drafted to the army in January of 1964 and returned home in January 1966. Larry served in the Vietnam War as Private First Class, earning himself a rifle sharpshooter badge, First Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Once discharged, Larry returned and married the love of his life, Beverly J. Russell, on June 19, 1966. From their union, a son was born, Jeffery Allen Oestmann on April 25, 1969. Larry was a bricklayer until 1974 and worked for the State of Nebraska until he retired in 2004.
Larry was an active member of the VFW. He also had a passion for classic cars, rebuilding his Impala and Jeff’s Chevelle, twice. He also had a passion for his Ford Ferguson Tractor, which was passed down from his father. He loved showing the cars and tractors off at any local show he could find. Bev and Larry were also avid travelers to visit family and couldn’t be found without their deck of SkipBo.
Larry is survived by son Jeff (Bambi) of Lincoln; granddaughter, Brooke of Lincoln; granddaughter, Morgan (Zach) of Stoutsville, OH; great-granddaughters, Loralie and Shirley; sister, Lois Podendorf of Beatrice; brother-in-law, Herb Simpson of Valparaiso; sister-in-law, Kathy Oestmann of Johnson; brother-in-law, John (Carol) Russell of Henderson, NV; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hall of Henderson NV; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Beverly; his parents; sister, Connie Simpson; brother, Aralon Oestmann; and brother-in-law, Don Hall.
A visitation for Larry will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68512. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Memorials are in the care of the family for future designation.
