Leila was born on December 15th, 1928 to Stella Marie (Anderson) and Rasmus Nielsen in Hoskins, Nebraska and had two sisters - Orgretta Caroline and Norma Floy.
She was a proud Danish-American and learned a strong work ethic and resiliency from her parents as she grew up during the Great Depression.
She was married to Loren Bennett in 1950 through 1960 and had three girls, Leanne, Carol, and Connie. After navigating life as a single mother for 10 years, she married the love of her life, Lynn Heusinkvelt, in 1970 and had her fourth daughter, Amy, in 1971. Leila was the proud and loving grandmother to Brian, Michelle, Jessica, Aiden, Connor, and Joseph and great grandmother to Colin, Garrett, Ryder, Roman, Tristan, and Penelope.
Leila always enjoyed working. After high school she worked in a radio repair shop which built her skill set and curiosity for repairing things. When Leanne, Carol, and Connie were young, Leila worked for Lincoln Telephone, Russell Stover, and as a claims representative at State Farm. After Amy started elementary school, she worked as an accounting admin at Madonna Rehabilitation for 12 years before retiring at age 65. In addition to working, she enjoyed bowling at Parkway Lanes, sewing and crocheting, and was also an avid gardener who enjoyed being outside, hands in the soil working on her flower beds, planting and picking vegetables in her garden, and pulling weeds one by one from the lawn. She had a green thumb and loved all living things from plants to bugs and especially all animals. She loved cheering for the Huskers across all sports - especially Football. And she was a devout Methodist and member of Christ United Methodist Church in Lincoln where she sang her favorite old hymns every Sunday with exuberance. With love and remembrance, we will miss her greatly.
Leila Fae was predeceased by her mother and father, Stella Marie and Rasmus, sisters Orgretta Caroline and Norma Floy, and daughter Carol. She is survived by her husband Lynn, daughters Leanne, Connie, and Amy (Thomas), grandchildren Brian (Laura), Michelle, Jessica (Anthony), Aiden, Connor, and Joseph. And great grandchildren Colin, Garrett, Ryder, Roman, Tristan, and Penelope.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Leila. There will be a celebration of life on March 23, 2024 at 10:00 am at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.
