Lois Joan Whitney of Waverly died on August 1st, 2022 where she was surrounded by family, friends and the wonderful staff of Azria Health Care. Lois was born in Washington, Kansas on June, 6th 1932. Alva and Dora Duer adopted her when she was a month old.
They resided in Lincoln Nebraska where Lois attended school. She graduated from North East High School in 1950 & Wesleyan College in 1953 with a Bachelor's Degree. Lois married Warren Whitney after he returned from the Korean War on June 12,1954 while also teaching kindergarten at a Lincoln school. She worked in the kitchen at Dorsey Laboratory from 1984-1990. To this union 4 children were born Robert, Pamela, Debra & John.
In 1963 the family moved to an acreage near Waverly, NE where she resided for 60 years. She was a charter member of Camp Creek Threshers, a member of Waverly Senior Diners and Lincoln TOPS Club. She loved working jigsaw puzzles, baking, cooking, reading, cross stitching & knitting. She knitted Christmas stockings for her grandchildren & great grandkids. But her main joy was her family. In 1975 Warren, Lois and a few neighbors had a dream and helped form Camp Creek Threshers. This club has grown over the years and still goes on in their backyard. Lois never missed a show, including this year in 2022. She was known as “The Park Ranger” to all of the members. She collected chickens, recipes and salt & pepper shakers. She loved her red geraniums, tomatoes and Dairy Queen Blizzards. Also loved feeding her Cardinals and Orioles.
Lois is survived by her children Bob & Jenny of South Dakota. Pam & Larry Ihde from Minnesota, Deb Rushfeldt of Waverly, Nebraska and John & Rachel of Glendale Wisconsin. 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by Warren, and parents Alva & Dora Duer.
We couldn’t have asked for better Care for Mom from Azria Health of Waverly. Her favorite nurse, Katrina was with her the last 3 days making sure she was comfortable.
