Born December 26, 1939, in Oakdale, NE, she was the daughter of Louis and Bernadine (Schumacher) Van Ert. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Norfolk, NE. She owned Norma’s Beauty Shop and worked as a beautician in Lincoln, NE.
Norma belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing the organ, collecting angels and spending time with loved ones. She will be remembered for her strong Catholic faith, ambition and being everyone’s biggest cheerleader. She liked to travel and to also attend many family reunions.
She was loved for the family that her and Lyle built together, and she took great pride in the joyful chaos created by 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Lyle, her children Debbie (James) Nicholson, Karla (Scott) Britain, Mark (Linda) Schwarting, Kevin (Pam) Schwarting, and Terry (Jenna) Schwarting.
Grandchildren Stephanie Mitchell, Dustin (Jessica) Mitchell, Rachelle (Andrew) Bouwens, Taryn (Kyle) Willibey, Alyssa (Adam) Versendaal, Corey (Vince) Praderio, Olivia (Micah) Kemp, Travis (Erika) Schwarting, Mara Schwarting, and Kylie (Grant) Warming.
Great grandchildren Tayler, Blake, Madison, Henry, Bennett, Raylan, Hudson, Kaden, Tanner, Merritt, Leighton, Whittaker, Forrest and arriving soon Charlotte.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Phila Mae Dredge, Mildred Zessin, Ervin Van Ert, Leonard Van Ert, Barbara Jean Furley, Floyd Van Ert, Susie Rush and Mary Lou Hummel.
The visitation will be held from 5:00- 7:00 pm on August 28, 2024 with Rosary at 6:00 pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on August 29, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lincoln, NE at 10:00 am, 7900 Trendwood Dr. with a graveside service at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
