

Philip graduated from Beatrice High School and then joined the Army Air Corps. He attended UNL with undergraduate and graduate degrees in education. He was a notable athlete participating in gymnastics and diving at UNL and lettering all four years. He taught and coached at Lincoln High School from 1950-1969 and coached multiple state champion gymnastic teams. From 1969-1989 he was the Athletic Director at Lincoln East High School. Phil was inducted into the Lincoln High School Hall of Fame and the Nebraska State High School Hall of Fame. Phil was the voice of the Nebraska Husker Football team during the 70s and 80s. After retirement in 1989 he fulfilled his lifelong desire to travel the country and enjoying time with his family. Preceded in death by wife, Norma Jean; parents, Charles and Wilma and brother, A.J. Survived by sisters, JaNelle Presnell and Joyce Barlow; children, Lynn (Michael) Buckner and Kirk (Debra); grandchildren, Gabriel, Larissa, Josh, Jeffrey (Jill) and Mark (Anna); great grandchildren, Dillon, Damian, Caiden, Jacob, Aamira, Eli, Caleb, Wyatt, Ashton, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials suggested to Grand Teton National Park Foundation (www.gtnpf.org) and Hospice of Tabitha (Journey House).
