Phyllis M Divoky, 73, Lincoln, died March 5th 2018 after her third battle with cancer. Born to Glenn I. and Bernice I. Gibson on August 24, 1944 in Ottumwa, IA. Phyllis graduated from Tempe, AZ High School in 1962 where she lettered in Varsity Archery. She was the recipient of the coveted “6 Gold Award” on numerous occasions. She graduated from Arizona State College in Flagstaff, AZ in 1965 where she was a member of a Business Honorary.
Phyllis’ childhood led to many lifetime pursuits. Her love of reading began with children’s hour at the Ottumwa Public Library which led to her 1st two jobs in the Tempe High School Library and the Tempe Public Library at age 14. This carried to the Art Slide Library at Arizona State College and then to later travels from her extensive reading. She lovingly prepared over 1300 books from her private library to be given away following her death.
Her grandmother’s each contributed to her knowledge of sewing and handiwork: Grandma Harward to beadwork and quilting and Grandma Gibson to rug weaving, crocheting and embroidery. Her work won her many ribbons and premiums from both county and state fairs. Add to this her sewing in both Girl Scouts and 4-H Club and 4-H Jr leadership.
Her travel knowledge came in very useful the 8 years she and Ron traveled with his consulting work after his retirement from Lincoln Telephone Co.
Phyllis leaves to mourn her, a husband of 48 years, Ronald F. Divoky, mother Bernice I. Gibson of Keosauqua, IA, brother and spouse Donald W. Gibson (Beverly) of Payson, AZ, daughter Janet A.Dail and grandchildren Erin and Allison Dail of Lincoln; son Allen F. Divoky of Tecumseh and grandchildren Allena and Crystal Divoky of Lincoln. Phyllis also leaves to mourn the remaining cousins of the “Rowdy 14 Gibson Cousins” and 2 nephews Craig (Paula) of Mesa, AZ and Mark (Linda) of Payson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her father Glenn I. Gibson and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation 5pm – 7pm Thursday March 8th at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. The celebration of her life will be held at 1PM on Friday March 9th at Trinity United Methodist Church, 7130 Kentwell Lane with burial to follow at Lincoln Memorial Park and Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund.
