Richard A. “Rick” Halverstadt, 67, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on May 17, 2026. Rick was born in Lincoln on February 23, 1959, to Charles D. and Betty (Schweitzer) Halverstadt, and lived in Lincoln most of his life.
Rick’s working life reflected steady skill and pride in doing a job well. He worked as a mechanic and machine operator in the oil drilling fields of Oklahoma. In Lincoln, he spent 20 years with Goodyear. In the 80's he was a reserve Deputy Sheriff for Lancaster County. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for several other businesses, bringing practical know-how and reliability to every role. At the time of his death, Rick served as a crew chief for the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Away from work, Rick found enjoyment in the things that provided him time with those he loved most - especially playing Cornhole and riding motorcycles, with a fondness for the Harley Davidson and Indian motorcycles he owned over the years. In prior years, he had a love of racing sprint cars and won many races, including one track championship. Rick was well-liked by his peers in the racing world. He was loved and respected by many people, and his absence will be deeply felt.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Betty Halverstadt, his great-granddaughter, Abby, and his brother David.
Rick is survived by his son, Jake Halverstadt; his sister, Donna McKnight; his significant other of 11 years, Tracie Wooge; his granddaughters, Payton, Mick, Jenna, Brooklyn, and Emma; his great-granddaughter, Megan; his great-grandson, Roman; three nieces; many wonderful friends and his beloved orange and jobless cat, Remmy.
As he battled through his cancer treatments, Rick would say, “It’s a win/win for me; I either get to be in my mansion in Havelock or in my mansion in Heaven. I’m just sad for those I’ll leave behind.”
A funeral service to honor Rick will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska. A visitation will be held starting an hour prior to the funeral service. Burial in Lincoln Memorial Park and Cemetery will follow immediately after the funeral service.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers that memorials be given to Capital Humane Society. The family would also like people attending the services to dress in casual attire as Rick would want.
