Richard D. “Dick” Hitz was born May 19, 1929 to Elden B. and Edith T. (Graff) Hitz in Lincoln, Nebraska. He attended Lincoln Public Schools, graduating from Lincoln High, then University of Nebraska, with a degree in Business Administration. Dick married Marilyn Mae Seward September 8, 1950, then served in the US Army at Fort Devens, MA.
Dick’s career in banking began at Commerce Loan Company in 1954, moving to First Trust Company, then First Continental National Bank until 1962. He then began a 55-year career at Lincoln Federal Savings & Loan, serving as Senior Vice President and Secretary, Board of Directors.
Fraternal organizations included the following: 50-year member (Master Mason) Craftsmen Lodge #314, Sesostris Shrine Novice Corp, Moose Lodge 3000, Order of Eagles Aerie 147, American Legion Post #3, and Kiwanis Club of Lincoln. He was a life-long member of Southminster Methodist Church.
Dick is survived by daughters Sue (Dave) Moraczewski, Doris (Jim) Lewis of Lincoln and sons Don (Laura Christensen) of Goehner and Jim (Leigh) of Greenwood Village, CO. His grandchildren include Anne Moraczewski and Leigh (Eric) Gordon of Lincoln; Mike (Nadia) Lewis of Sammamish, WA; Tanya (Alan) Baker of London, England; Steve (Emily) Lewis of Chicago IL; Carolyn (Ryan) Dougherty of Carbondale, CO; and Richard (Brooke) Hitz of San Diego, CA; along with 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Wayne Hitz of Lincoln and Roger Hitz of Kansas City, MO. Preceded in death by wife Marilyn, son John, and brother Marvin “Bud” Hitz.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Memorial suggestions include Nebraska Masonic Home Foundation; Lincoln Public Schools Foundation, Covid Crisis Response; and Southminster Foundation.
