Richard James Safarik

Richard graduated from Springfield High School in 1943, and along with eight classmates, went to enlist in the service. At first rejected, he then was drafted and served in the U.S. Navy until 1946.

In 1947, Richard married Grace Mundt. Three children were born to this union: Candace, Mark, and Andrew. After working several years as a printer, Richard later became an accountant, retiring as Fiscal Director for Southeast Community College. He was a devout member of Redeemer Lutheran Church at the time of his death.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Safarik and sister Irene McKenzie. He is survived by children Candace (Mike) Connery, Mark (Meredith) Safarik, and Rev. Andrew (Johanna) Safarik; Grandchildren Majel, Drew, and Greg Connery, James, Daniel (Emma) and David (Taylor) Safarik, Isabel (Jesse) Rood, and Margaret (Joel) Parker, and five great-grandchildren, Knox, Charlie, Hazel, Van, and Olive; by his sister Helen Johnson, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 27 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lincoln at 10:30 A.M.
