Shirley Elaine Going

Shirley Elaine Going, age 91 passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband and 3 daughters on Saturday, December 11, 2021. She was born on August 29, 1930 to Hugh and Florence (McCoy) White. Shirley resided in Lincoln since 1995 and was a former resident of Norfolk, Nebraska. She married Garland on March 30, 1973. Shirley was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Shirley attended Phillips University, Southwestern State teachers college and Northeast Community College. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 25 years with the State of Nebraska. After retiring she babysat for grandchildren, volunteered at her church and other community organizations. Shirley loved music and played the piano and sang in church choir, She was in many of the Christmas Musicals at Capitol City Christian Church which presented 10 performances to the Lincoln Community. She loved attending her grandchildren's church, school, sports, and music activities.

Shirley and her husband Garland loved to travel and highlights of their travels included trips to Hawaii, Japan, Europe (Germany, Holland, and Austria) Canada and Caribbean Cruise. Her other hobbies include; collecting angels, Precious Moments figurines, Snowbabies, Reading, Walking, and flower gardening.

Shirley loved her family and hosted many family gatherings into her 80's. Christmas was her favorite holiday and these family gatherings brought her the most happiness.

Preceded in death by her parents, brothers: LeRoy White; Everett White; sisters: Janice Schoen; Carolyn Wiley and Diane White.

Survived by her husband Garland Going of 48 years; daughters: Corinne (Patrick) O'Brien; Joy (Dave) Blythe; Sherry Gilbert; step sons, Steven (Mary) Going and Michael (Jodi) Going; step daughter Brenda (Vern) Blosser, 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; sisters Connie Arkfeld and Debra Gray; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Capitol City Christian Church, 7800 Holdrege Street, Lincoln, Nebraska.
