Shirley M. Truka

Shirley was born in Daykin, NE in 1940 to William “Bill” and Hilda Sukovaty and grew up on a family farm near Wilber, NE. She enjoyed learning how to cook and took care of the farm animals. Shirley attended Saline County Country School District 79 from kindergarten through eighth grade. Then she attended Wilber High School and graduated in the class of 1958. She continued her education at the Lincoln School of Commerce and got a degree in financing and accounting, where she used her skills at a financial institution. She married the love of her life Milo “Mike” Truka in 1958. Shirley was a stay at home mother and loved raising her four children. She also worked at Telex for many years. In her free time she enjoyed being in multiple bowling leagues, reading a good book, cooking up delicious meals and spending time with family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents William “Bill” and Hilda Sukovaty; Husband, Milo “Mike” Truka; Son, Michael Truka; Daughter, Rhonda Hupka.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Linda (Lewis) Buresh; Son, Mitchell (Joni) Truka; Daughter-in-law, Kim Truka; her brother, Jack Sukovaty and life partner Joanie Ransom; her brother-in-law Bob (Karen) Truka; Grandchildren, Jason Hupka, Amber Hupka, Aurora Hupka, Bryce (Shalene) Buresh, Evan (Amanda) Buresh, Shylo (Gabriel) Fraher, Ann (A.R. Sorsby) Truka, Madeline Truka, Nolan (Emma) Miska, Kathreen Woods, Michael (Chelsea) Truka, Tristen Truka; Nephew, Reece (Sarah) Sukovaty; Niece, Aniece (Josh) Collins; and Many Great-Grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 10:00 am, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St., Lincoln, NE 68504. Memorials for the family may be sent to the funeral home.
