With great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Joel Serrano on February 15, 2023. He was born on November 23, 1961 in the Bronx, New York to Doris Colon and Juan Luis Serrano. In his younger years, he grew up with his brothers and sister in Newark, Elizabeth and Jersey City, New Jersey. His teenage years were spent in Arecibo Puerto Rico.
Joel attended Doctora Maria Cadilla High School in Puerto Rico. Soon after, he joined the military and served in the Army National Guard for a number of years. Following his military service, he lived and worked in Jersey City in the pharmaceutical industry as a Chemical Compounder and Quality Control Specialist.
Joel loved the ocean and was an excellent swimmer. He spent a lot of his time during his teenage years in Puerto Rico at the beach and surfing. He was also a music enthusiast who enjoyed deejaying and kept an extensive record collection of house music. Joel had an impressive knowledge of current events and pop culture and could talk endlessly about news, trivia and trends.
He is survived by his brothers - Carlos, Luis, Dioni, Jr., Herec (Eddie) and Mickey; sister – Wanda; nephews – Javier, Herec, Jr., Victor, Jake, D’Angelo; nieces – Denise, Ashley, Heaven-Leigh and Angeleigh. In addition to his parents, Joel was predeceased by his brother, Sammy and nephew, Anthony.
A wake will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, 2124 East St. George Avenue, Linden, NJ 07036.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, 2124 East Saint George Ave, Linden, NJ 07036.
