AUBURN – Alfred “Breezy” Galgovitch, 93, was born in Lisbon Falls October 21, 1925, the son of John and Mary Borsak Galgovitch. He received his education in the Lisbon Falls schools. He served in the Army November 10, 1943 to April 21, 1946. He served in the famed 10th Mountain Division in Italy during World War II. He is the recipient of the Purple Heart, Victory Medal, Good Conduct, European African Middle East Theater, 2 battle stars – North Appennines and the PO Volley, Sharp Shooter Carbine, Rifle B.A.R. He was married to the former Dorothy T. Christman of Lewiston, ME on June 25, 1946. He worked at the Worumbo Mill and J.P. Steven in Lisbon Falls in the maintenance dept. He also worked at Bath Iron Works at the Harding Plant maintenance dept. for 19 years, retiring April 1990. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Parish Church of Lisbon Falls, ME, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, and was past Commander of the Emilien Hamann Chapter 11 of Lewiston and Auburn, ME. He belonged to the National Association of the 10th Mountain Division. In the 60’s and 70’s he was a well-known scuba diver. He loved hunting with his son and grandchildren, roller skating and photography. He belonged to the Lisbon Falls Fire Dept. from 1950 to 1974.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one son, Richard and companion Val of Lisbon Falls; three daughters, Jean Fournier and her husband Maurice of Lisbon Falls, Katherine Carville of Lisbon Falls, Susan Galgovitch and companion David of Lewiston, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Alfred is predeceased by his father, mother and two brothers, John and Albert, and grandson, Kenneth Carville Jr.
Visitation will be held on Thursday January 3 at The Crosman Funeral Home from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Friday January 4 at 11:00 AM. Committal Services will be held in the spring at Calvary Cemetery in Lisbon Falls.
