She was born on July 6, 1946, in Chicago, to Charles and Corine Pope. She first attended Madonna H.S., and then St. Francis of Wheaton, when the family moved to Glen Ellyn, in 1961.
After attending Northern Illinois University, she would later find a happy work environment at DuPage Obstetrics and Gynecology where she made many cherished friends and lasting memories over the next twenty-three plus years.
Unexpectedly, and after experiencing the normal ups and downs of life, she was reunited with her high school sweetheart and true love, Bob Rylko — thanks to her oldest daughter, Lindsay who tracked him down on the Internet in March of 2002.
They had not seen each other in thirty-seven years, but those old feelings had never changed, and their fairytale romance finally turned out as originally planned, when they married on July 12, 2003. He would be her loving partner and best friend for the remaining years of her wonderful life.
Besides the joy she took from spending time with family and friends, Cheryl had a passion for estate sales and bargain hunting. Her greatest joy came from turning discards into treasures. She also loved gardening, cooking, sewing, reading a good book, keeping up with family and friends on Facebook, spending sprees on Amazon Prime --- and, of course, Neil Diamond.
She will long be remembered for the love she showed to family and friends alike, her positive attitude, incredible generosity, boundless energy, and ability to make everyone feel special and welcomed.
She is survived by her siblings … older brother Peter (Jeannette), sister Susan, brother Tommy (Chris), and youngest sister, Robin …. along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Her sons Jimmy (Izabela) and Jonathan (Jean), along with daughters Lindsay (Gareth), and Susie (Jeremie), plus several grandsons and granddaughters.
In addition to husband Robert, her stepchildren Scott (Aimee), Shannon, and Ryan, along with several granddaughters, a grandson, and great granddaughter.
She will be forever missed by the many people whose lives she touched and those who were blessed for having known her.
Cheryl will be interred at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Wheaton, IL with a private ceremony for family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the St. Jude Children's Hospital. It was Cheryl's favorite charity due to their, “… lifesaving mission to find cures for childhood cancer.”
God rest her precious soul.
