Nora, Nonnie, Gram and Mom to many more than just her children, Nora Moran Marovich was born on February 11, 1927 in Manhattan, New York to Mary and Michael Moran, and grew up in the coastal town of Belmullet, Ireland where she was raised by her beloved aunt Sabina Geoghegan.
At a young age, she stepped up to care for her younger brother after her mother passed away when she was just a toddler, prompting the move to Ireland. Life in Belmullet cultivated her passion for caretaking, from her pig named Leo, to all of her cousins, and anyone else who crossed her path. From then on, Nonnie never stopped caring for the ones around her.
Her love of Irish lore and storytelling stayed with her long after moving back to the United States as a teen. Shortly after the move, she met George Marovich and married in Staten Island September 29, 1950.
George and Nonnie settled in Lisle where they raised their three children Karen (James) Boros, Nick (Mary) Marovich and Melanie Synowiec, along with too many too count kids in the neighborhood.
She is a cherished grandmother to Caitlin (Josh) Brown, Maggie Marovich, Kyle Synowiec (Jacqueline), Eddie Marovich, Natalie Marovich, and great Grandmother to Merritt and Callahan Brown.
After retiring from Lucent Technologies Nonnie was able to shine as a star in the local community. She sang in the St. Joan of Arc choir for over twenty years, was a member of The West Suburban Irish where she was honored with being the Grand Marshal in the 2011 St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and a member of the Red Hat Ladies.
More than anything, Nonnie will be remembered by the countless lives she touched with her warm heart, kind words and honest opinions. Always ready for a cup of tea and listening ear, she had a unique ability to deeply connect, and make you feel special for being on this earth. Nonnie went to be with the Lord August 5, 2021.
To know Nonnie was to know love.
