Steve was a loving husband, father, and friend. He met his wife, Kimberly, at the Marriott in Lisle while they were working together. The couple were together for seven years before getting married on October 14, 2005. Kimberly and Steve did everything together, and they especially loved going to ball games at Wrigley Field, as Steve was a life-long Cubs fan. Sometimes, Steve would even make his way across town to watch Kim’s team, the White Sox, at Guaranteed Rate Field. The couple had two beautiful girls together, Lilian, in 2008 and Skylar in 2010.
Steve loved being a father, and sharing his love of the outdoors with his daughters. He took them camping, hiking, and fishing. He passed on his love of animals to his girls by teaching them to be expert frog hunters, and taught them about all the creepy-crawlies and critters that could be found in nature. He taught his girls to be strong, courageous, and kind, just like him.
He had a very tight-knit group of friends since childhood that remained close into adulthood. Steve would play board games, Dungeons and Dragons, and the group even had a volleyball team together and they played every Thursday. In his free time, Steve also liked to work on old cars.
Steve was a good man, and no one had a bad word to say about him. He took wonderful care of his wife and daughters. He was a fighter, and he fought with brain cancer for 16 years, but never let his illness get in the way of enjoying his life or taking care of his family. He will be truly missed.
Steve is survived by his wife, Kimberly; daughters, Lilian, and Skylar; mother, Carol; sister, Christine (Josh) Vlietstra; nieces, Madalyn; nephew, Devin; his in-laws, Jean and Leonard Kula; sister-in-law, Kristin (Jereme) Carlson; nieces, Abigail and Emily; and many beloved family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Filip.
A Celebration of Steve's life will be held at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 N Lincoln Ave., Lisle, on Saturday, December 11th, 2021 from 1-6pm. A time of sharing will be held at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Steve's name to the Dragon Master Foundation, www.dragonmaster.org, or Dragon Master Foundation, 4120 E 61st N, Kechi, KS 67067.
