On this day, Donna M. Nalley went home to be with God. She was reunited with her
husband and my dad, Gary. Man, I would love to have been there to see their long
awaited embrace that has been coming for 22 long years. She will be greatly missed by
her family and friends, who could form a line a mile long. She was small in stature but
truly had a heart that was made of gold and full of never ending love for those around
her. She, like many before her, was most proud of her kids, grandkids and great
grandkids as her most crowning achievements in life.
She was preceded in death by her amazing parents, Edward and Bertha; her siblings
Geneva, Ginny, Bobbie and Lloyd Ray and one grandchild Ty. She is survived by her
loving sister and “twin” Patricia along with her 2 sons, 3 grandchildren and 2 great
grandchildren.
She worked side by side with Gary for many years in the insurance business and
continued running that business for years after his passing. She was fiercely
independent and was never afraid of hard work day in and day out. She enjoyed
working in her yard and definitely had a “green thumb” as evidenced by her many plants
and flowers around her apartment. She even went as far as telling her sister, Patricia,
to make sure and keep her flowers watered while she was gone to the hospital.
The main thing that set her apart was one word…LOVE. She even left that message on
a piece of paper in the middle of her bags that she had left behind when she went to the
hospital for her surgery. It stated very simply, “I love y’all” written on a whole sheet of 8
x 10 inch paper, which she knew would be found by others when unpacking her things.
And, those were the last words that I witnessed my mom mouth to my wife and myself
while in recovery after her surgery. Those words sum her up completely as she fought
to wake up that day…”I love you.”
Momma, you are now at peace and rejoicing in Heaven with those that went before you.
We will all miss you greatly, and we can’t wait to join in on the rejoicing with “y’all” some
day. Lord Jesus, thank you for the time here on Earth that we all got to share with this
truly beautiful person (inside and out). And know that we all loved her dearly.
