Oliver was born on July 21, 1930 in Mayflower, Arkansas, the youngest of seven boys and one girl born to Chester and Grover Harris Long.
Oliver served as a Snow Trooper in Alaska prior to the Korean War, and as an assistance Drill Instructor during the war.
Oliver never met anyone he could not befriend. He took great pleasure in the simple things in life: family, friends, faith and gardening, and attended Little Rock Community Church for over 50 years.
Oliver is proceeded in death by his parents, sister, six brothers, two wives, Letha Mae and Juanita, stepdaughter Betty Cain, a granddaughter Amy Long, and stepson Johnny McLaurin. He is survived by son Chuck Long and wife Lynn Long, a grandson Chris Long, stepdaughters Linda Henson, Laurine McLaurin, Connie Ringer and husband Ronnie, stepson Laurin McLaurin and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth 5800 West 12th Street on Friday, August 5 from 6pm- 8pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 6th 2:30pm in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth with burial following at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
