

He was raised in Panky Addition, known to many as Highway 10, as the eldest of six children born to Sterling and Freda Piggee Sr. From an early age, he carried the responsibility and pride that came with being the oldest, helping shape the strong and dependable man he became.
Sterling proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years while stationed in California. After completing his service, he returned home and worked various jobs before finding his true calling as a long-haul bus driver for Trailways, (as one of the first African-American long haul drivers.) When Greyhound acquired Trailways, he continued his career there, dedicating over 30 years combined before retiring.
Known for his warm personality and easygoing nature, Sterling’s friendliness made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was often specifically requested to drive charter tours, forming lifelong friendships across the miles he traveled.
Even in retirement, Sterling remained active. Not one to sit still for long, he returned to work driving for the Army National Guard at Camp Robinson, where he continued until he finally decided to enjoy a well-earned rest.
Above all, Sterling was a proud family man. He often spoke with joy about his children—Susan,Vertna, Deneal (Billy) and Stacy.Dag (Della)
He leaves to cherish his memory is his beloved baby sister Pauline, his children, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Sterling will be remembered for his dedication, his stories from the road, and the genuine connections he made throughout his life.
