

Allan was born November 6, 1938 and grew up in Forest Hills and Great Neck, NY. He was a high school graduate of Dwight Academy and graduated from Rider University where he earned a BS in Finance and Accounting. Allan served in the military from 1962-64 where he taught radiological and biological warfare. Subsequently, in 1968, he earned his MBA from Farleigh Dickenson University, where he later taught as an adjunct professor. Additionally, he taught finance at Wagner College and the US Military Academy at West Point.
After graduating, Allan spent nine years at Dun & Bradstreet before entering the financial services industry where he spent thirty-three years as a financial executive beginning at Merrill Lynch. He developed a knowledge and expertise in derivatives, options and commodities and was recruited by Bache & Co. While there, he traveled cross-country training investment professionals about options trading strategies and derivatives markets. He was then hired by Advest, Inc. to manage their options portfolio and continued to mentor and teach these strategies to Account Executives. Allan later managed the New York Advest offices and went on to become a Regional Manager, and then Division Manager from which he retired in 2006 after the company was ultimately acquired by Merrill Lynch. While in retirement he provided his expertise as an arbitrator for FINRA.
Allan was a man of great passion and enthusiasm whose leisure time was spent with his family and friends. Allan’s interests were diverse. He was an avid New York sports fan of intense loyalty. He was a 30-year NY Giants season ticket holder and closely followed the Rangers, Knicks and Mets. He made a point to not miss an athletic event in which his children and grandchildren participated.
A patron of the arts, Allan spent time in the City experiencing the stimulating culture that NYC has to offer. He loved the theatre, jazz, art galleries and ballet. As a collector of contemporary art, he truly appreciated many genre's, artists and diverse art forms.
A prolific reader, he shared each book that he enjoyed with his friends and family. He was a world traveler who appreciated the finest experiences, food and wines.
Always up to a challenge, in 2005, Allan became commodore of the Garden State Yacht Club, Lake Hopatcong – the first Commodore who never owned a boat!
Allan is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Eileen (Simon); and his loving children Pamela Friedman (Robert) of Warren; Carolyn Reisman (Dr. Jeffrey) of Short Hills; and Helene Coustan (the late Brad) of Westfield; and his seven grandchildren, Amanda and Ilyse Reisman, Isabelle, Sanford and Charlotte Friedman and Victor and Ava Coustan.
Allan is survived by his brother-in-law Leslie Simon, his brothers Dr. Sam Mandel (Annette) of Manhattan and Miami, Dr. Edward Mandel (Ellen) of Overland Park, KS. He is predeceased by his parents, Anna and Herman Fink, his sister, Cielle Block, and most recently, by his son in law, Brad Coustan.
Friends and family will miss his friendship, loyalty, kindness and sensitivity. They will also miss his competitive spirit, sense of humor, moral compass, family values and unbound enthusiasm for exploring all that life has to offer.
A funeral service will be held 2:00PM today September 7, 2016 at the Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ. Burial will follow in B’nai Abraham Memorial Park, Union, NJ.
