Bernard Brenner beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on July 18, 2020 after a brief battle with cancer. Bernie was 90 years old. A life-long resident of New Jersey he was born in Jersey City before moving to Livingston, NJ where he raised his family. For the last 14 years he was a resident of West Orange.
Bernie was predeceased by his parents Max and Mary, his loving wife Loretta to whom he was married to for 46 years and by his beloved daughter Jodi Brenner Modell.
Family was the most important aspect of his life. He was a proud father to sons: Michael (Sue), Steven (Bonnie) and Marc (Anne). His most cherished role was as grandfather to: Sara, Jayson, Lexi, Phoebe, Rachel, Ross, Jacob and Lucas. He was a brother-in-law to Mildred Stein and Herb Newman and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
He happily found a second chapter with partner Norma Weiss of West Orange, NJ.
Bernie joined the Army in 1946. After spending time in Japan he was discharged as a Sergeant. Returning to New Jersey Bernie attended Newark College of Engineering and graduated as an associate engineer. While going through school, under the National Defense Act, Bernie stayed in the Air Force reserves and was once again honorably discharged from the service with the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Air Force.
He returned to school for his master’s degree from Newark College of Engineering in Electrical Engineering in 1959. He started his career at RCA and after many years with the company worked for Schaible Oil. Bernie remained an active businessman starting BAW Group while in his 60’s and continuing to work until a few months ago. He was a 50-year member, congregant and donor of Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston, NJ.
Bernie’s high integrity, authentic character and deep love and generosity towards his family will be remembered forever.
Graveside services were held at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, NJ on Monday, July 20, 2020.
In his memory contributions could be made to The Jewish War Veterans or Temple Beth Shalom.
