Heidi Levey, of Florham Park, NJ, died on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Heidi was born in Newark, NJ, on March 17, 1937. She graduated from Weequahic High School, and went on to graduate from Finch College in Manhattan.
Heidi dedicated herself to creating a beautiful home and supporting her husband and children in all of their endeavors. She was very active in the PTA at her son’s elementary school, becoming the president. She took her social action further by participating on the executive committee of the National Council of Jewish Women of Essex County for many years. And ultimately, Heidi became a beloved and respected volunteer visitor and patient advocate at Orange Memorial Hospital in Orange, NJ. Her volunteerism there evolved into very successful fundraising work, to which she was committed for 17 years. She loved to sing, laugh, and connect with friends; but most undeniably, she adored her family and wanted to be involved with them in every way she could. Heidi was the devoted wife of Myron Levey for 40 years until his passing. She maintained a lovely home in Essex Fells, where she graciously hosted large groups for the Jewish holidays, and painstakingly created celebrations that made her family feel so special.
Heidi was the loving mother of Jonathan Block and his partner, Judith; and Melissa Berger and her husband, Cary. She was the proud grandmother of Jonathan and his late wife Robin’s twins, Jake and Jordyn; Melissa and Cary’s children, Griffin and Brooke; and Judith’s children, Ileana and Ari. Heidi was also an incredible dog-mom to Buffy, a Standard Poodle; and later to Dustin, a Bichon Frisé. She embraced everyone who came into her children’s lives and was the most attentive, hospitable, and generous mother, mother-in-law, and Grammy. Heidi is also survived by many loving cousins and dear friends.
A funeral service for Heidi will be held Sunday, October 9, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, New Jersey 07039. Following the funeral service will be a burial at 12:30 PM at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 189 Gill Lane, Iselin, New Jersey. Due to COVID, shiva will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
