Helene was born in Chicago on April 2, 1924 and lived for most of her life in the New York metropolitan area, including 61 years in Westfield.
Helene was a flutist who graduated from The Juillard School of Music. She played professionally with Phil Spitalny and His ALL-GIRL Orchestra, and she was the first flutist of the Plainfield Symphony for many years. She was a private flute teacher for scores of area students. She was a past president of the Musical Club of Westfield, of which she continued as a member until her death. Helene was an avid tennis player and a member of the Westfield Tennis Club for more than 25years.
Helene was predeceased by her first husband, Bernard L. Reiter, who died in 1968 after 22 years of marriage, and by her second husband, Seymour H. Frieland, who died in 2014 after 42 years of marriage. Helene is survived by her children; Glenn(and wife Lyn); Lauren (and husband Richard); Donald (and wife Kim); and Neil (and wife Lauren). She also is survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Dr. Mitchell Edson of Fredericksburg, VA
