Irwin (‘Red’) Facher, 82, of Maplewood, NJ, died peacefully at home on November 22, 2021. Born and raised in Newark NJ, he returned to Essex County to practice law after earning a BA from Dartmouth College and a JD from Harvard Law School. He practiced law for over 50 years and with his wife of 55 years, Marylou (Portnoy), enjoyed travel, theatre, music and sports.
His greatest pleasure was his family and many close friends. He will be remembered by all who loved him for his unparalleled humor, steadfast loyalty, sharp mind, and stoicism in the face of significant health challenges. A grateful recipient of a heart transplant in 2010, Irwin felt blessed to have 11 more years with his beloved family and friends. Irwin is survived by his wife, children Scott Facher and Betsy Facher Rauch (Evan), grandchildren Leo and Miles Facher and Delia and Sabrina Rauch, sister and brother in law, Ruth and Sid Massey, and his beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Irwin will be held Sunday, November 28, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, New Jersey. Following the funeral service will be a burial at 12:30 PM at B'nai Abraham Memorial Park, 2600 Rt. 22 East, Union, New Jersey.
At the request of the family, all attendees are required to be fully vaccinated and wear a mask.
