Phyllis Chanin

Phyllis Chanin of Monroe Township, NJ passed away on January 14, 2025, at the age of 95. Phyllis leaves behind a legacy filled with love, compassion, and cherished memories. She is deeply loved by her family and will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Phyllis was born in Newark, New Jersey, and grew up in Linden, NJ. She married her beloved husband, Paul, with whom she shared nearly 50 years of marriage until his passing in 2001. Together, they raised their son, Scott, in Clark, New Jersey, where they spent the majority of their married life. After Paul’s passing, Phyllis moved to Monroe Township, NJ, where she lived until her death. For the past 40 years, she also spent winters in Southern Florida, where she created countless joyful memories.

Phyllis was extremely proud of her children, Scott, and daughter-in-law, Susan, and her grandchildren, David and Rebecca. She especially enjoyed the holidays, when she would gather with her family to cook her favorite recipes, passing down the family traditions and her culinary skills to the next generation. Her warmth, generosity, and dedication to her family were apparent to all who knew her.

A woman of grace and elegance, Phyllis had an impeccable sense of style. She was a dedicated friend to many, always offering kindness and a listening ear. Phyllis loved to travel, especially on cruises with her children, where she met people from all walks of life and created unforgettable experiences and new friendships.

Phyllis is survived by Scott, Susan, David and Rebecca; and her sister, Myrna Ganz. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A funeral service for Phyllis will be held Friday, January 17, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Adath Israel Congregation, 1958 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville, New Jersey 08648. Following the funeral service will be a burial at 12:30 PM at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 189 Gill Lane, Woodbridge Township, New Jersey 08830.
