

Rhoda Lois Schwartz Rosenberg, 90-years old, living in Livingston, New Jersey, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on July 30th, 2024. Rhoda was born on August 4th, 1933, to Aaron and Anne Schwartz in Newark, New Jersey. She grew up in the Weequahic neighborhood of Newark. Rhoda got her bachelor’s from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey. She went on to hold many different positions within her life such as a phlebotomist within a cardiologist office and a volunteer on the West Orange First Aid Squad. Rhoda was married to Arnold Rosenberg in November of 1948 for twenty-six years. Rhoda has two daughters, Beth Howell and Lisa Sutton, who grew up in Livingston, New Jersey. Rhoda was an incredibly compassionate and attentive mother who always involved her children in activities such as skating, dance, and Judaism.
Rhoda is survived by her brother Harvey Schwartz and children Beth Howell (Husband Scott Howell) and Lisa Sutton (Husband Glenn Sutton). Her grandchildren Aubry Fisher (Husband Brandon Fisher), Dean Sutton, Ryan Howell, Dylan Howell, and great-granddaughter Annalea Bucho; as well as several other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Rhoda spent time mastering many different crafts such as needlepoint, crochet, and sewing. Her family more vividly recalls Rhoda’s cooking and baking skills, as she often hosted dinner parties and created lavish menus of multi-course dinners. Rhoda also participated in gardening, growing an array of herbs, vegetables, and plants at her home. In more recent years, Rhoda was a docent at The Turtleback Zoo in West Orange, New Jersey. Rhoda had a vast knowledge of all animals present within the complex and never ceased to keep learning. Since moving to Livingston, Rhoda had six dogs, her most recent being a small, loving dog named Shadow. Rhoda loved to travel, often visiting west coast states such as Idaho, Oregon, Washington State, Wyoming, and California.
Rhoda will be remembered fondly by family and friends all over the country as a woman of great strength, compassion, and humor. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to be made to The Zoological Society at the Turtleback Zoo in West Orange, New Jersey or Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston, New Jersey.
