Berson, Robert (Bob) died on May 5, 2024 at the age of 85. He was a resident of the Claridge House in Verona, NJ and Dalton, MA. Bob is survived by Natalie, his wife of 63 years, his son Scott, Scott’s wife Cathy, his grandsons Spencer and Aidan, and his brother Neil and Neil’s wife Lana. Bob was a graduate of Penn State (’60) and Fordham Law School (’64) and served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant. He was a leader in the securities industry, having first served as a Branch Chief in the Enforcement Division of the SEC’s New York Regional Office, and later as the General Counsel of major securities brokerage firms, including PaineWebber and Ryan Beck. He was a mentor, trusted advisor and legal counsel to many individuals and firms and served as a distinguished member of NASD District Council 10. More than just a counsel to colleagues and friends, Bob was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and uncle. He took special pride in the accomplishments of his son and grandsons and helped them along the way with his support and wise counsel. “Uncle Bob” was also very involved in the lives of his nieces and nephews and they adored him. Bob was a lover of all things baseball, being a lifelong Yankee fan who helped the Yankee organization through his ownership interests in several of the Yankee minor league ball clubs. Later in life, the Berkshire mountains of Massachusetts became a cherished place for him to relax and enjoy time with his beloved wife while taking in theatre and music. Those who knew him will long remember his anecdotes and that wherever he went, he always seemed to bump into someone he knew or knew about him.
Bob leaves a legacy of high moral character, integrity, responsibility and professionalism that will shine as a beacon for all to follow, and he will be deeply missed.
Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or to the charity of your choosing.
