Hi Sandy,
It's been six years since your passing and almost six years since I found out.  John has been your proxy for me, helping me navigate your life since we were last in touch.  I still regret not trying harder to find you and John has helped me cope with that as well.  Margo was here last weekend and we looked at old pictures of you.  I showed her the 2 pictures John provided.  I love the one with you on the kitchen floor with your grandson.  That is frequently the image I have of you when I think of you.

I recently came upon a photo of you from the early 70’s.  I’m not exactly sure where this was taken.  It was a black and white profile of your face that I developed and printed.  You had cut your hair very short which I had forgotten about.  You were beautiful, as always.

Earlier today I was looking for something in a closet and in the back I saw the small wooden box which is filled with tubes of dried up water colors.  Sandy and I did water color painting during our trip out west in the early 1970's.  Whenever we were in a city, we would look for an art supply store so we could buy more tubes.  I have a picture of her in the Canadian Rockies painting.  The old tubes have been useless for painting for decades. But they're very useful for invoking  a happy memory.

I re-read your memorial thoughts about Sandy and know she had a true and caring friend with you. Sandy was a kind and giving soul. She was true to herself and her beliefs.

In case you didn't get my note, I just wanted you to know I'm thinking of both you and Sandy and  I have a candle burning for her.

Thinking of you, Sandy, on the second anniversary of your passing.  And my thoughts are those of love and peace.  

Sandy painted me a watercolor of a cell.  The nucleus is orange, with a red nucleoli.  The mitochondria are green and red and the ribosomes are yellow with red and lavender.  The rest of the cytoplasm is filled with green dots.  It’s always been where I can see it.  Now it’s on a shelf in my bedroom so it’s one of the first things I see when I wake up.  For many years it hung in my office.  Wherever it’s been, when I see it I feel a smile. It gives me a moment to feel Sandy.  

When she painted it Sandy knew I loved science.  What neither of us knew back then was that I would become a hematologist and how lucky I always felt because I could look at cells under the microscope every day.

So this special little painting is one way in which Sandy remains a part of my life.

My heart is with you all on this difficult day.  I hope it brings you solace to know she still lives within all of us who loved her.

There is no doubt that I am a far better person from knowing and being friends with Sandy.

I knew her from 1968 to 1982.  We met in the dorm our freshman year in college and we later lived together in Madison and Greenbay, Wisconsin.  In 1971, we spent several weeks traveling out west camping, hiking, beading and taking in the beautiful landscapes in front of us.  At the end of the trip, my mother joined us for a few days.  Sandy and my mother were close which I mention because Sandy' funeral was on the date of my mother’s birth. 

Both of our lives took sharp turns in 1982 and we fell out of touch.  And then although I kept trying and despite Google and Facebook, I was unable to find her.  

Not a day goes by that I don’t think of her. She has remained a part of me and for that I am thankful.

I always thought Sandy was beautiful from our days in high school.  I  ran into her recently on occasion in Morristown where we chatted and reminisced.  I realized that Sandy's beauty all came from the kindness and warmth within her.    I'm  so, so sorry.  This is heartbreaking.

We met Sandy at South Orange Jr. High School.  She was a beautiful, intelligent, and kind spirit.  Truly-she is gone too soon.

So sorry to hear of Sandy's passing.  My deepest condolences to you, Jon and Guy,  and the entire family.  We shared many wonderful memories together during the Far Brook years.

Sandy and I became friends many years ago through the JCSS.  She was a warm and intelligent person who thought deeply about her Jewish identity and her spiritual well being.  She was a  generous volunteer and a tremendously empathetic member of the community.  I will miss our wonderful talks and her enormous  kindness.  I send my deepest condolences to Jon, Guy, her mom and sister, and her entire family.  

Sandy was a long-time enthusiastic volunteer and supporter of the Museum of Early Trades and Crafts in Madison. I recall her cheerful personality and can-do attitude. We will all miss her.

Dearest Jonathan and family,

There are no words to express the sadness of the passing of Sandra.
May she forever live in your hearts and souls. Her love, beauty and wisdom will always be with you. May she be proud of all that you do and may you always pay tribute to her in your daily lives.  Know  we hold you close in our thoughts and prayers.

A donation will be made to The Erik Douds Juvenile Diabetes Foundation which provides children with type 1 Diabetes the tools and community to live a great life.

To Sandy's family:  I have such good memories of growing up with lovely Sandy.  Her death is heartbreaking.  From eighth-grade homeroom to the present day, I've admired her beauty, her warm and friendly ways, her beautiful smile, her joy in life.
