

Mr. Sherman I. Hirschfeld, 82, died Sunday, June 10, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, at 10 a.m. in the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Rd., Livingston, N.J., with interment in Mount Lebanon Cemetery. Born in Newark, N.J., Mr. Hirschfeld moved to Livingston 52 years ago. A 1951 graduate of the Rutgers University School of Administration with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, Mr. Hirschfeld had been a certified public accountant in New Jersey since 1956 and was the chief financial officer of U.S. Home Corporation, International American Corp. and Rieder Land Technology, Inc. Mr. Hirschfeld, a U.S. Marine, served with the First Marine Air Wing in Korea and Japan during the Korean War and was a member of the Jewish War Veterans of America Post 309. He was a life board member, past president and chairman of the Finance Committee of the Synagogue of the Suburban Torah Center in Livingston. Mr. Hirschfeld had been a recipient of the synagogue's "Keder Shem Tov" Award in 2001, and the Pillar of the Community in 2009. He was a past master of the Edgemont Lodge 267 F&AM, and been very active on various committees of the Jewish Federation of MetroWest. He leaves two sons, Alan of Millburn, N.J., and Martin of Syracuse, N.Y., and a brother, Robert, of Somerset, N.J.
