Suzanne Meryl Diamond Rosen (Sue) of Roseland NJ, peacefully passed away on January 2, 2021, after a long illness. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 57 years, Charles; her son, Laurence; daughter, Caroline Goldstein; Caroline’s husband, Neal; and her beloved grandchildren, Samuel and Max.
Sue was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 1, 1941 to Samuel Diamond and Bertha Goldberg Diamond. After graduating from Midwood High School in Brooklyn, she was admitted to Cornell University with a perfect SAT score and earned a bachelor of science degree in design there. Sue became an elementary school teacher in the New York City public school system, while pursuing her own interior design business. After moving to Roseland, she worked as a substitute teacher at Roseland’s Noecker School and as a librarian at the Roseland Free Public Library.
An accomplished pianist, Sue actively volunteered at the Noecker School, including introducing and directing a highly successful program for student plays. Always busy, she designed and sold personalized clothing; pursued her painting; and loved hosting large holiday dinners, surprising the guests with different homemade gourmet desserts.
Notwithstanding her other pursuits, she always had time for her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the love of her life. Sue loved animals and always had pets in the house, often more than one. She enjoyed stays at the family lake house in both the summer and winter, particularly when the house was filled with family. Sue was an avid tourist and visited many countries, but always returned for another visit to Italy.
Funeral services were limited to immediate family due to the existing Covid rules.
Should you wish to honor Sue’s memory, the family would welcome you to join our support for the World Wildlife Fund.
