Andrew McHugh

Andrew McHugh passed away March 27, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Andrew was born on July 30, 1929 in Detroit Michigan to John and Elizabeth McHugh. Andrew was raised primarily in Hazel Park, MI along with his three sisters.

After losing his father at an early age Andrew worked several different jobs including delivering papers and carrying groceries to support his mother and sisters. When Andrew was 14 years old, an uncle enrolled him in the Henry Ford Trade School where Andrew obtained his high school diploma while learning the electrical trade. While attending the Trade School, Andrew began a 47 year career with Ford Motor Company. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 1994 as the Plant Maintenance Supervisor, of the Dearborn Stamping Plant. Andrew remained active in the Henry Ford Trade School Alumni and served on the board, including a term as Alumni President.

On Saint Patrick’s Day 1950, Andrew married his wife Elizabeth (nee: Ross) and together Andrew and Elizabeth had six children. Andrew and Elizabeth enjoyed many activities together including camping with their children, bowling, golfing, and later exploring different parts of the United States in their camper, but their first and most important passion was their family.

After Elizabeth’s passing in 1999, Andrew moved to North Fort Myers, Florida to pursue his passion for golf year-round. In his living community Andrew was well respected and known for his long daily walks and unselfish willingness to help others with any projects needing attention.

Andrew is survived by his children: Dawn (Marty) Ramm, Debra (Richard) Valko, Darlene (Gary) Armstrong, DeAndrea Foisy, and Andrew (Hollianne) McHugh; sister, Jane Lentz; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Andrew was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth, daughter Dianne, son in-law Kenneth Foisy, sisters, Bessie Show and Mary McHugh.

Family and friends will gather from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 2, 2021 at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 West Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. A maximum of 25 people at a time may visit with masks and observing social distancing.
