

Booker T. Sims, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on March 6, 2025, at Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, at the age of 73. He was born on January 15, 1952, in Drew, Mississippi, to Bertha Johnson. Booker was a man of integrity, passion, and joy, and his legacy will live on through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.
Booker’s family meant everything to him. In 1969, he met the love of his life, Carmaletta Turner, through family friends. Their bond grew strong, and they were married in 1974. Together, they shared more than 50 years of love, laughter, and memories, including many adventures across the globe. Booker and Carmaletta traveled extensively, with trips to Las Vegas and cruises being some of his fondest memories. Above all, he treasured his visits to Virginia to see his son Duane whenever the opportunity arose.
Booker is survived by his devoted wife, Carmaletta; his children, Duane Sims and Marietta Sims; his grandchildren, Jaamal Sims, and Harmony Hill; his siblings, Billy, Sycilia, Michael, and Tony; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Johnson, his grandson, Duane Sims, Jr., and several of his siblings.
Booker’s passion for life was matched only by his dedication to his work and his hobbies. A skilled chess player, he was known as a Chess Master, and he played the game throughout his life. His strategic mind and love for competition were evident in everything he did. He also had a deep love for bowling and achieved many perfect games over the years, making countless memories at the bowling alley.
For 50 years, Booker worked as a Tool & Die maker for Chrysler, where his talent and commitment earned him the respect of his peers. He retired just three years ago, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, craftsmanship, and dedication.
A Funeral Service will take place at 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 6 Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Booker’s family will receive visitors from 10:30am until the time of service at 12:00 pm. A burial will follow at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park in Livonia.
