Calvin John Hoffman

In 1943 was drafted into the US Army and served his country in Europe during WWII. Following his service he enrolled at General Motors Institute and earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering in 1949. He continued his association with General Motors working there as an engineer for 42 years before retiring.

On September 10, 1955 Calvin married the love of his life, Mary P. Detlefs at St. Monica Catholic Church in Detroit. They enjoyed 56 wonderful years together.

Calvin was an active member in the community. In 1955 he became a parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Livonia. He was also an active member of the Livonia Snowflakes, Boy Scouts and Monaghan Council Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary Hoffman of Livonia, cherished children Tom (Elaine) Hoffman of Unionville Connecticut, JoAnne (Jeff) Pritchard of Novi and Cathy (Philip) Trussler of Westland and beloved grandchildren Ryan Pritchard of Dallas Texas, Joseph Pritchard of Ann Arbor, Ensign Jillian Hoffman of the US Coast Guard, Lauren Hoffman of Columbia South Carolina, Zachary Trussler of Westland and Josh Trussler of Westland. He is also survived by his sisters Joan Hoffman of Livonia and Rosemary Mentel of Livonia and his brother iIn-law, Jack (Sandy) Detlefs and many loving nieces and nephews.

Calvin will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

His family will receive friends on Wednesday January 11, 2012 from 4-8 pm with a Rosary Service at 7 pm at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd. (just east of Newburgh) in Livonia.

Calvin will lie in state on Thursday January 12, 2012 from 10 am until the time of his Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 11441 Hubbard (just south of Plymouth Rd.) in Livonia. He will be buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
