Claire-Wynne Sobson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, returned to her heavenly home on Saturday, May 1, 2021. The daughter of Clarence R. and Margaret Fibiger, Claire was born on December 23, 1932, and spent much of her early childhood in Toledo, Ohio. The Fibigers relocated to Michigan, and in 1950 Claire graduated from Redford Union High School. In high school, Claire was a drum majorette and earned a Varsity letter in Debate. She went on to attend the Harper Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1953. She shortly after began her career as an RN, a vocation that reflected her lifelong commitment to serving and helping others. A devout Christian throughout her life, Claire lived her faith in service to the Lord.

On May 26, 1956, Claire married Ronald W. Sobson; they were married for 59 years, until his death in 2015. After living with their young family in Alabama, Pennsylvania, and New York, they returned to Livonia, Michigan, in 1974. In 2019, Claire moved to Independence Village in Plymouth, where she participated in the Bible study group, book club, and exercise classes, and (despite her denials of any computer aptitude) established herself as its most tech-savvy resident. Although she developed increasing vision challenges, Claire continued her avid reading via audiobooks and in 2020 alone read over 60 books.

Claire was the personification of unconditional love; she celebrated and supported the successes of her family and friends, and was a source of strength and comfort to those in need. She is survived and greatly missed by her children, David (Juley) Sobson, Lorraine (Tim Reilly) Sobson, Natalie (Kenneth) Sikora, Carol (Randy Schacht) Sobson, and Deborah (Tom) Karabatakis; grandchildren Mira and Rachel Sobson, Jack and Luke Reilly, Stephanie and Alex Schacht, and Joseph and Adam Karabatakis; and great-granddaughter Ashlyn Lask.

Family and friends may visit on Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Harry J. Will Funeral Home 37000 West Six Mile, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Earth's loss is Heavens gain. Claire was a dear friend through our years in Grade School and High School. Claire was in my wedding in February 1956 and she caught the bouquet and Ron caught the guarder. They married in May. What memories we shared. We tried to get together with two of our friends every year and when we got together the years just melted away. She will be greatly missed but we will meet again one day. We were both blessed in knowing Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

Claire was the personification of an authentic Christian. Claire & Ron were steadfast examples of faith in action at Saint Michael Lutheran Church, and served as living ambassadors for Jesus all the years I knew them. During the last 10 years, I was blessed to know Claire much better through service and fellowship in the Good News! ViadeCristo movement. Always a smile. Always an encourager. Always a blessing. That's how I'll always remember Claire!

Dearest Natalie, I remember your mother very well from the time we shared the house in Northville. I always adored her and was happy you had her. She brought us food to the house when we all had the flu ❤️. I’m so sorry for your loss. I know she is on a wonderful journey now. May that help to heal your heart. Know you are loved .

Claire held a special place in my heart. I always admired her grace and her love of the Lord. Claire sponsored me in Via De Cristo. I enjoyed sharing my experiences with Claire. She is with our Lord and Savior and even though she’ll be missed by many it is comforting to her family and all who loved her that she is with Him for eternity.
In Christ
