David Leroy Weatherbee was born on April 6, 1946, the oldest of Wannetta (Schultz) Weatherbee’s nine children. He passed away on January 7, 2026, in Detroit, Michigan following a hard-fought battle with cancer.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Hinkle, and his younger siblings, Donald, Violet, and Mary.
David is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen; their children, Mark Weatherbee (Rebecca), Sherri Frost (Larry), and David Weatherbee; their grandchildren, Erich Hinkle, Christopher Hinkle, Kyle Weatherbee (Sydney), Elizabeth Horton (Tristan), Ryan Weatherbee, Matthew Hinkle (Haley), Jordan Weatherbee, Jason Hinkle, Angel Weatherbee (Hailey), Zechariah Weatherbee, Andrew Weatherbee, Daniel Frost, Christian Weatherbee, Sophia Weatherbee, and Jaylen Lockhart Hinkle; and their great-grandchildren, Charlotte Horton, Harper Weatherbee, Lincoln Horton, and Stella Weatherbee. He will be missed by his siblings, Dan, Tim, Tina (Larry), Ray, and Patrick (Tabatha); as well as extended family and friends.
Dave loved to bowl, golf, and make people laugh–and did all of these until he could no more.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 31, at 12 pm at Downriver United Methodist Church, 14400 Beech Daly Rd, Taylor MI 48180. Family and friends will gather beginning at 11 am.
In keeping with David’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and inurnment will be in the columbarium at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Downriver UMC Food Pantry.
