In October of 1948 Don joined the United States Air Force where he rose to the rank of Staff Sargent and worked as an aircraft mechanic. Following his discharge in August of 1952 Don began working at Krause Oldsmobile in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He later went on to work as a Technical writer for American Motors. As his work illustrated Don had a love for cars and was mechanically inclined. He would work on cars at home and earned the nickname "Mr.Carburetor " from family and friends. In his retirement years Don enjoyed his time at home. He could often be found outside in the garden. Above all else he loved to spend time with his family, friends and helping when and where he could at St. Colette Parish.
