Gary George Witt was born on April 9, 1945 in Carroll, Iowa to Ruthana (Schoessler) and George H. Witt. After a long battle with cancer, Gary went to be with his Savior on November 2, 2018 at the age of 73. He is survived by his loving wife Kitty (Kieck) Witt, his cherished daughters Karla Schettenhelm and Krista (Steve) Vines and his adored grandchildren Kaylin, Nolan, Kyler and Emily. He is also survived by his mother Ruthana Witt of Carroll, Iowa, his brother Merle (Diane) Witt, his sisters Deon (Dale) Rowedder and Gloria (Ron) Bradshaw, also his mother-in-law Marcy Kieck, sisters-in-law Marion Kieck (Keith Curry) and Sherri Kieck and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father George H. Witt, his father-in-law Rev. Harold Kieck and his brother-in-law Ken Kieck.
Gary grew up on a cattle farm in Arcadia, Iowa. He showed black angus cattle at shows and fairs. He graduated Valedictorian from ArWeVa High School in 1963. He enrolled at Iowa State University and completed a Bachelor's in Chemistry and a Master's in Metallurgy graduating in 1970. He married the love of his life Kitty (Kieck) on June 6, 1965.
In 1970 he began his 36 year career at Ford Motor Company. He started at the Livonia Transmission Plant in the Management Training Program. He managed several departments throughout Ford and retired in 2007 as Chief Engineer in Materials, Testing, and Standards. During his time at Ford he completed his MBA at the University of Michigan.
Gary used his technology and management skills in many professional societies including ESD, SAE, ASM and CIT. He was also involved in community organizations. He was a sponsor for the Livonia High School Career Intern Program, on advisory teams for several universities, and president of his residential civic association.
Gary was on the committee for the formation of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church. He was a charter member of the congregation and continued to be an active member as long as he was able.
Gary's life was his God, his family, his friends, his church and Ford Motor Company.
Visitation Saturday November 10, 2018 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Harry J. Will Funeral Home 37000 Six Mile Rd. in Livonia. Funeral Sunday November 11, 2018, in state from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church 14175 Farmington Rd. in Livonia. Gary will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Memorial Park. Memorials appreciated to Christ our Savior Early Childhood Program or Christ our Savior Quilters.
